"Talk To Me" by Reef the Lost Cauze [prod. by Snowgoons]

"We live in a society quick to diagnose/
But what they don't see is the person I see at home/
And that is my son, a magical soul/
So words don't matter here, cuz when he needs me I know/"

This is some real shit. You have no heart if you don't respect this track.

BREALTV presents "Once Upon A Rhyme" ft. Ras Kass

In this installment of "Once Upon A Rhyme", Ras Kass gives the scoop of what song put him took him to the next level and the story behind it.

Mass Appeal presents "Rhythm Roulette" featuring Oh No [Video]

I've posted a video from this series before (featuring Black Milk), but this one's a little different. I really enjoy these videos because you get to see which techniques certain producers use. And this one's pretty dope. Oh No went to a local video game store and picked 3 different video games, and later went home and sampled the soundtracks to make a beat. I had no idea that was possible so I thought this video was interesting. The beat turned out to be pretty strange but it was still cool to watch. Shoutout to WCW/NWO Revenge.

"I Feel You" by Chris Rivers ft. Jose Vargas [Music Video]

"I'm the prodigal's son/
And all the profit in my pockets couldn't buy me some gum, I feel like robbin' with guns/
I feel like sellin' some drugs/
I know my sis and mom's contemplating selling some love/
And I ain't talkin' bout hugs/"

Chris Rivers is definitely able to keep it consistent. This video popped up on my feed this morning and it's pretty dope. It's got a nice mellow beat and chorus that suit these powerful verses perfect. The video's done well also. Check it!

"The Beast Within" by Komodo [Album Stream]

The wait is finally over and the beast is unleashed. Kitchener artist, Komodo, released his first solo project, "The Beast Within" this morning. There's 14 tracks in total and features a few other local artists. This album has a mixture of different vibes and song ideas, but it's all very well calculated when it comes to the lyrics. Production done by TheCratez, Diamond Style Productions, Chemist, Breathtaking Beats, Mixla and Flawless Tracks. Check it out!

"U Looz" by Prhyme (DJ Premier & Royce da 5'9") [Music Video]

"Still caught up in all the gun shit/
Still callin my bullets Expendables cuz it's hard to believe I can fit all them boys in one clip/"

This shit's so fuckin dope. Big fan of both DJ Premier and Royce da 5'9" so I can't wait to hear what else these guys are cooking up. I seen a snippet for this video a few weeks ago but I just found the full version now. Check it!

Friday 24 October 2014

"I'm A G-style" by Komodo

"So stay off my long john, your top songs are awful/
Betray all you soft frauds, get lost, y'all can rot slow/
I recall when Mama she talked lots of gospel/
But I can't recall how many tops I've popped off the bottle/"

New shit from Kitchener artist, Komodo. This one's gotta raw, straight hip-hop feel to it. It's a 2 minute freeverse over the "I'm A G" by Reef the Lost Cauze instrumental. Seems like something to keep people eager to hear his upcoming project, "The Beast Within" which drops on Halloween. Check it.

Thursday 9 October 2014

"The Beast Within" by Komodo [Music Video]

"This mind's a machine, it's a mind of it's own/
Sometimes I question whether or not I'm in control/
So many chemicals within it collide and impose/
It's own reaction, I'm slowly grasping it's different modes/"

New visuals from an artist from my city (Kitchener, Ontario). Komodo just dropped this video for his upcoming project, "The Beast Within" which drops on Halloween. Check it.

Wednesday 8 October 2014

"1 Hit Wonder" by Mike Boyd [Music Video]

"They say sex sells, and maybe that's fact/
Look at that rump shakin', baby got back/
It's unbelievable/
Got me wondering what's underneath ya clothes/"

Here's a set of visuals for one of the cuts from Mike Boyd's project, "Note the Sarcasm". The playful nature of the video suits the song perfectly. I think Mike Boyd deserves a lot more credit than he receives so please check this dope Canadian shit!

"Rockin Wit Marley Marl" by Redman

"I got the blunts rolled up with Marley Marl/
And if I fucked yo girl, pardon me dogg/
I rolled up in this bitch with no bodyguard/
I missed the flight cuz I didn't make lobby call/"

Redman rocks atop a beat inspired by "The Show" by Dougie Fresh & Slick Rick. He's got a couple of projects on the way, but for now you can download this track @ Redman's World. Check it!

"Alladat" by Jarren Benton

"I'm just a dreamer asking God to shine a little light/
These niggas soft and they'd probly die in a pillow fight/
I'm smoking hashish out of a silver pipe/
I told that bitch to run the jewels, word to Killer Mike/"

Jarren Benton's gonna be releasing a new track every Wednesday leading up to his EP which drops later this year. Not a fan of the chorus but I didn't mind the rest. Check it.

"Terrorstorm" by Army of the Pharaohs [Music Video]

"Backstage rap groupie sluts, schemin on blunts/
Bunch of bum ass bitches in some beat up dunks/
Roll that weed up cunt, tell her we'll meet up front/
She kinda frumpy, but she still could get her D Cups humped/"

This video's dope. AOTP just dropped an album a few months ago, and they're not stopping. "Heavy Lies the Crown" drops on the 21st of this month. Good to see a sense of humour from a group that rarely joke around. Check it.

Wednesday 1 October 2014

"Bounce" by Rittz ft. Twista [Music Video]

"They wasn't with me when I traveled down this gravel road/
GC, I could never have my pass revoked/
So step up and you a dead duck/
Get your head bust, looking like a chef just cracked a yolk/"

This song is beautiful. And the visuals are pretty dope too. I have yet to fully listen through Rittz' latest album, "Next to Nothing", but I've listened to this song at least 1000 times and I'm still not sick of it. No exaggeration. Check it!

Monday 1 September 2014

"Hallelujah" by Dilated Peoples ft. Fashawn, Rapsody, Domo Genesis, Vinnie Paz & Action Bronson

"You think that you can box with Vinnie, dummy that's obscene/
The nine milli silly dummy, but the mac is mean/
The downstairs' wild gritty, but the attic clean/
You have unbearable likeness and just a lack of being/"

This shit bangs. I love the beat and everybody on it kills it. It's from Dilated Peoples' album, "Directors of Photography" which dropped last month. Collaborations like this are great. Check it.

"Stay In Your Lane" by Swisha T, Johnny Bravo & Charron [Music Video]

"Capisce, my bitch'll leave you dropped in the streets/
I'll swing my dog on a leash until it knocks out your teeth/
Feed the beast, the demon is being re-released/
I'll motherfuckin leave a priest hangin' by a Jesus piece/"

Never heard of Swisha T & Johnny Bravo before, but I'm a fan of Charron's battles so I decided to check this out. It's not bad, the video's cool even tho some parts are a bit fucked up lol. The verses were sick tho there's a lot of hillarious lines. Check it.

EP Stream: "Labour Day EP" by Tait

My engineer is also one hell of an artist. Tait, 1/2 of The Rhythm & The Rebel, dropped a 10-track EP this morning which adds something fresh to our growing local scene. All production is done by Chase N Cashe. Check this shit out now!

Wednesday 27 August 2014

"Dog Tags" by Constant Flow (Swave Sevah & Akir)

"Earth rulers, my niggas move like it's Desert Storm/
Chumps are slain and we dump the remains in the reservoir/
Check my rap sheet resume, my repetoire/
When we prep for war, I'm the first one with the weapon drawn/"

Never heard these guys before, but I found this track on Soundcloud and it's pretty dope. Some raw rap shit, they stay consistent with the rhymes. Check it!

"Diabolical Sound" by Diabolic [produced by DJ Premier]

"My cult following shares the same perspective/
They'll die for their beliefs like Dave Koresh's in Waco, Texas/
Deranged and reckless, what I say's infectious/
Plus Preem is scratchin till needles snap and break the records/"

Maaaaan this shit is amazing. Diabolic on the mic with DJ Premier on the beat. I wasn't a huge fan of that Alien Manuscript song but this one's sick. This beat kinda reminds me of Society is Brainwashed by Ill Bill [also a Preemo beat]. The title fits the beat perfectly and Diabolic kills it as usual. Check it.

"Flatline" by Fortunato [Music Video]

"You get popped if you gassed up like Texaco/
Tecs'll blow, you wanna die? Tell me yes or no/
You make a statement, I'ma promise to make an arrangement/
That's my word mothafucka, you better fuckin face it/"

Fortunato just dropped a video from him latest project, "Unseen Armada". This one's got that good old boom bap feel and some dope lyrics to accompany it. Check it.

Tuesday 26 August 2014

"Junior" by Madchild

"Lookin' down, colourful botanical garden/
Robotic Jabberjaw, spit mechanical jargon/
A million other rappers fill the planet with garbage/
So I have to represent cuz Mad is Canada's hardest/"

This beat sounds like somethin that could been on Apathy's Connecticut Casual. It's got a mellow bluesy vibe, but Madchild uses it to exercise his lyrical game. This track's from Madchild's upcoming EP, "Switched On" which drops on September 30. Check it!

Monday 25 August 2014

"State of Mind" by Dizzy Wright [Music Video]

"Dizzy gets down, nigga this is his town/
When you learn how much you worth you'll stop givin' out discounts/
Gotta quiet all of these critics, the most devoted in my division/
They do it for the mentions, but I'll never trade respect for attention/"

One week before him and Jarren Benton head out on an 11-day tour, Dizzy Wright just dropped a video from the title track of his State of Mind EP. The video's a little different but it's still pretty dope and the song's what you'd expect from him. Check it.

Wednesday 20 August 2014

"Pissed It All Away" by Slaine

"So what's the make and the model off the pot you piss in/
When your Cadillac is repo'd, your job position/
Is droppin low enough to cause a fuckin heart condition/
You're a middle aged, overweight rock musician/"

Slaine's "The King of Everything Else" released a couple days ago, but I still haven't had the chance to check it out. I'm a little late posting this one, but it's pretty dope. Seems like Slaine's lyrically taking care of his past. Check it.

"White Rapper" by Rittz [Music Video]

"Now the rap game is flooded with rappers/
From every nationality, a ton of em crackers/
The fact that I finally came up is miraculous/
20 years later my name is becoming established/"

White Jesus has been very generous as of lately. This is the 2nd set of visuals for his upcoming album, "Next To Nothing" which hits shelves September 9. This one's a bit deeper than "Profit" and "Turn Down", but it's still got that hype energy. Can't wait to hear the rest of this album. Check it.

"Nunya" by Saigon (produced by DJ Premier)

"When it's time for me to say sayonara/
Y'all gon be sayin' that Sai a martyr/
And that I'm a lyrical firestarter/
Yea I kinda sorta be lyin' on my dick/
Cause it's a lot of chicks I hit I will not admit/"
Saigon just dropped this DJ Premier produced track from his upcoming GSNT3: The Troubled Times of Carenard (which releases September 30). Can't remember if Preemo and Saigon have linked up before, but this track proves them to be compatible. Check it.

Thursday 31 July 2014

"Vietnam" by Joe Budden ft. Ransom

"Niggas know I'm raw with the rhymes/
Cuz I'm known to off sides with these offensive lines/
Leave em lost in the vines, you thinkin' it's social media/
I'm thinkin' it's deep in the jungle with hopes of leavin ya/"

I love this track. The beat and the energy they had on this track were crazy. Not sure if this is on a project or anything, but it could definitely make the cut. Check it.

"Profit" by Rittz ft. Yelawolf & Shawty Fatt

"When I was young, ain't no kids out carolling around the holidays, they were pistol carrying/
In despair, gettin' paper was imperative, when reaching in my pocket, only thing there was lint/
But like a ??? don't wanna spare a cent, we suited up in all black and a pair of 10's/
I ran up in the local baller's house, I lay it down, mothafucka show me where it is/"

Here's some Slumerican shit. Rittz is dropping "Next to Nothing" on September 9th, and as far as I can remember this is the first official release from it. Although I didn't really like the buzzing in the chorus, I thought the rest of it was pretty dope. Rittz kills it as usual but Yelawolf and Shawty Fatt both had pretty strong verses as well. Check it.

Tuesday 22 July 2014

"StreetFighter" by emoceans.

"I couldn't let myself talk like ya talkin'/
There ain't no second guessin in the steps that you're walkin/
They say that sellin is an excellent option/
But what's the cost in the devilish auction/"

Here's some Kitchener shit for ya. This popped up on my SoundCloud feed this morning and when I heard it, I had to share it. I used to chill with these guys in high school and they make some pretty sick music now. It's dope hearing people you know killin' it. Make sure to check their page if you're feelin this one!

"Getting High" by Slaine ft. Demrick [Music Video]

"This is the place I see my demons, where they haunt me at/
I try to leave and go away, they always want me back/
My neighbourhood is where the real life zombies at/
Just seen Johnny noddin' off down the laundromat/"

This video makes me wanna get high (but not as high as some of the people included in the footage). I know Slaine's been on the path of sobriety lately, so this track's probably just a reflection on the past for him. This cut's from him upcoming "The King Of Everything Else", which will be in stores on August 19.

Friday 18 July 2014

"Ill Mind of Hopsin 7" by Hopsin [Music Video]

"In my mind, I make perfect sense/
If you aren't real then all my prayers aren't worth a cent/
That would mean that I could just make up what my purpose is/
And I could sit in church and just say "fuck" in the services/"

Hopsin maintained the usual summer ritual and dropped another installment of his Ill Mind series. At first listen, I wasn't even feeling that beat. But once the subject matter picked up I began to understand the track more and this track turned out dope. I really like the whole religion argument idea for a song, and even though I don't completely agree with his perspective, it's good to hear a popular artist with an original opinion on such a deep topic. Check it.

Sunday 6 July 2014

"Nigga Whut" by Redman [Music Video]

"Redman on blast, perfecting the craft/
Smoke all ya bud, ride off and laugh/
All type of girls love Red, I ain't mad/
Shit, I got Islamic women tryna bag dad/"

Redman took to social media today and released a video single with absolutely no information regarding the origin of it. I know Muddy Waters 2 has been in the works for some time now, but I'm not sure if this will be on it. Either way it's a pretty dope single and Redman stays true to his roots shooting this video in New Jersey(I'm pretty sure). Check it!

Wednesday 2 July 2014

"Now On" by Ransom ft Vado & Chinx Drugz

"I'm really the most, pop the tequila they toast/
I'm live in the hood, but I'll appear in the ghost/
Niggas declare me the GOAT, bitches be clearing they throat/
Haters be swearing I'm broke, I disappear in a boat/"

I fucking hate the chorus to this song. But Vado and Ransom both murder this shit, and the beat's pretty dope too. Check it.

"The Imperial" by Statik Selektah ft. Action Bronson, Royce da 5'9" & Black Thought

"I know I'm sorta pompous, no type of moral compass/
Go right the fuck up in your mouth like I'm the orthodontist/
Some rappers is just startin out, but me I'm more accomplished/
The imperial Black Thought from the foreign objects/"

This shit is dope. A nice boom-bap beat that perfectly suits the style of all 3 of these raw emcees. Black Thought got twice as much airtime as the other two, but I ain't complainin' one bit. Check it.

"Fear" by Tech N9ne [Music Video]

"A stranger to the one who raised us/
Nameless to the one who raised us/
Back to the place where it all began/
I'm seeing heaven but I fear it's the end/"

For how much I love this song, I feel guilty I haven't blogged this yet. But it's never too late to share  something dope. This is definitely my favourite cut from Tech's latest collabo album, "Strangeulation". This video's one of the better ones from Tech and may be more powerful for fans who know Tech's life through his music. Check it.

Monday 9 June 2014

TeamBackPack presents Mission Underground ft. A-1, Anilyst & Locksmith [Video]

"You keep droppin albums and CDs, we get it, you workin, you writin/
But it's sorta like Rihanna's titties, we seen em, there's no more excitement/
You tweet and you post and you boast and you hostin these legion of students/
You ??? in all this attention but no-one believes in your music/"

This cypher is dope. All 3 of these guys are very lyrical, and aside from Locksmith fuckin with the mic stand, there's not a dull moment. Check it!

"Moving Along" by Merkules [Music Video]

"Fuck a strategy, I gradually have to be/
Who I am, you ain't them you an actual masterpiece/
I don't rap for the cash, I'd rather get back to my family/
Make my grandparents happy and have em travel the map with me/"

Here's some raw Canadian shit for ya. Merkules is a beast, even on his less hype tracks. This is one of them but he has some pretty sick rhymes in both verses. Check it!

Wednesday 4 June 2014

"No Comin Back" by Serial Killers (Xzibit, B-Real & Demrick) [Music Video]

"Say I'm bout to overdose like Anna Nicole/
Plus the devil already got one hand on my soul/
Should I stand on my toes? Cuz I'm walkin on a tight rope/
Thin line between yours & mine when the nine blow/"

Serial Killers must've had a successful European tour, cuz the footage serves for 90% of this video. I love this beat n the chorus on this track, n they all have decent verses. Check it!

"The Demon's Blade" by Army of the Pharaohs [Music Video]

"When I click mine, your whole clique dyin'/
Flickas flyin, ricochet through hips and hit spines/
Bulldozer through ya house, Celph'll pave the way/
He the hardest non-graffiti artist that sprays a K/"

Army of the Pharaohs just dropped this video to a track from their recently released "In Death Reborn" album. This one's gotta more upbeat feel than AOTP is normally rappin over, and Vinnie wore his nice shirt to match the vibe lol. This is some straight hip-hop shit. Sick sample & drums, no chorus, just straight spittin! Check it.

"Grass Ain't Greener" by Apathy

"And the cars and the clothes from the stars that you know/
Got you runnin out, gettin credit cards you can blow/
That's marketing bro, you a target fo sho/
You at Target right now, cart full of clothes/"

Apathy just dropped his "Connecticut Casual" album, and I got the chance to check a few tracks. This one's different from anything I've ever heard from Ap, and overall it's a really dope song. Some shit to think about in this one. Check it.

Tuesday 3 June 2014

"0 to 100 (Remix)" by G-Unit

"Nigga gettin' money new to you/
I give a fuck if shit get ugly, there'll be a beautiful funeral/
You fit the strip I'm gon assume it's true, can't maneuver through/
The street without a strategy, ain't nobody to tutor you/"

Seen a picture of G-Unit @ Summer Jam 2014 floatin around the internet, but I didn't think much of it. Apparently they've re-assembled the team and have released a couple tracks. I heard one called "Nah I'm Talkin Bout" but I wasn't feeling it at all, but I think they planned it that way. This track on the other hand is a remix of a Drake song, and is more reminiscent of the original G-Unit sound. Check it!

Thursday 29 May 2014

"Martha Moxley" by Apathy [Music Video]

"Here's one for the sinners, hold up ya middle fingers/
For all the strippers gettin' older and bitter/
For all those single mothers that cannot afford they babysitter/
So they coppin' liquor and call me to come thru and dick her/"

I'm pretty sure the original song that Ap sampled here always comes on when I'm at the dentist. It's a nice relaxing sample that Apathy decides to add some drums to and spit some less calm lyrics over. Such a classy piece of work coming from a grimy AOTP dude. Check it!

Monday 26 May 2014

"Hard" by Tech N9ne ft. MURS [Music Video]

"Let up your dresses, confess it Tech is impressive/
His message, F it, stretches from Zacatecas to Texas/
I'm excessive with breasts's, when I press it meshes make messes/
This wettest sex is at breakfast, yes they're blessed as Hugh Hef is/"

Not sure if those lyrics are 100% correct, but you can't blame me if they're wrong lol. The first single released from the latest Tech N9ne Collabos CD finally gets some visuals. I really like how they did this video, I think it suits the song perfect. This one is definitely "hard", so turn it up!

"Dipshits" by Cam'ron & A-Trak [Music Video]

"I'm different, you beaten/
What you doin after this? Bitch I'm leavin/
Adios, huh, vamanos/
I fuck ya mama, word to mama keep ya mama close/"

A little late posting this one too but I hope it reaches someone who may not have seen it yet. If you have seen it, just watch it again. It's like stepping into a time machine. Such a nostalgic track for anybody who was into Dipset during their heyday. I wish Juelz n Jim Jones woulda dropped a verse but I guess I shouldn't complain. Hopefully being patient pays off. Check it.

"House Rules (Intro)" by Slaughterhouse

"This soundin like the beginning of a tape/
Usually yellow, you yellow bellies can pick a fate/
We ain't have to go soft to get this cake/
I watched niggas skate for figures, throw away rollerblades for figure skates/"

I'm a little late to post this, but Slaughterhouse recently released a new mixtape, House Rules. I had the chance to listen to a few of the songs and they sound like what you'd normally expect from the group. I'm just sharing the intro from the project, but you can download/stream it @ DatPiff by clicking here. Check it!

"Reunite for the Night" by Dizzy Wright [Music Video]

"Ain't nobody sittin on they own,
niggas singin' songs playin' beer pong/
It's ok that we can't always do the right thing,
cuz I heard a little laughin' make you live long/"

Dizzy Wright recently dropped a new visual for a song from his State of Mind EP. "Reunite for the Night" is one of those feel good tracks that makes you wanna get a buzz on (for me at least). So this one goes out to all my Monday night party people! Check it.

Wednesday 30 April 2014

"Small World ft. D-Sisive/ Fly Like A Butterfly" by Mike Boyd

"I got that little money, little wallet, little pockets/
I'm on that little label, little business, little office/
Yep, I got a little doggy, yep, I got a little son/
Yep, I get a little buzzed, get a little sloppy, get a little drunk/
I'm insecure about myself, I got a small ego/
I have a small crew, I hang with small people/"

So I recently heard the entirety of Mike Boyd's new project Note The Sarcasm and I really liked it. The album has a familiar feel if you're a fan of Classified, as he produced the whole thing, but Mike has a whole persona and attitude which is really refreshing from his brother. This video features a taste of two of my favourite songs off the album and highlights how different he is from your average "gettin' money" rapper. If you like what you hear I would recommend checking out a stream of the whole album here: http://www.djbooth.net/index/albums/review/mike-boyd-note-the-sarcasm. Some of my personal favourites beyond the ones in this video are Street Lights, Crash at Your Place and the hilarious Bush League.

"Over It" by Tech N9ne ft. Ryan Bradley

"I'm enhanced and polished/
All of the women they wanna dance and frolic/
You was a winner with lots of grands in pockets/
Now you get rants and audits/"

I can't wait for Strangeulation! We have had Tech on the blog many, many times so I'm not gonna yap on about him but keep an eye out for Strangeulation. I think this album is gonna be hot based off the little bit I've heard and I'm excited to see all the Strangeland features.

Monday 28 April 2014

"A Day in the Life" by Diabolic

"You're about to see my atoms combust/
Like stars were born in carbon form from magical dust/
Y'all are antimatter, meaning you don't matter to us/
Rebel arms in formation, we're attacking at dusk/"

Diabolic hooked his twitter followers up with a throw-away from his upcoming album, "Fighting Words". As usual, Diabolic absolutely kills it. If this is a cut that didn't make it, I'm eager to hear the rest of this album. Check it.

Sunday 27 April 2014

"When the People Cheer" by The Roots

"Am I a douchebag, or just another durag,
Tryna get ahead on some brand new wig shit?/
For your entertainment, money is the language/
So every time I speak I'm tryna make another payment/"

I feel a bit left out because this has been out for 20 days and I had no clue until this morning. Hearing this has me excited to hear what the rest of The Roots' upcoming "...And Then You Shoot Your Cousin" has in store for us. In a XXL interview Black Thought briefly explained the concept of the album saying “It’s conceptual; it’s another concept album in the spirit of undun, but it’s not just about just one kind of character, we create quite a few different characters in this record." I'm a big fan of Undun and this joint totally stays in line with what Black Thought explained. "...And Then You Shoot Your Cousin" hits stores on May 19. Check it!

Thursday 24 April 2014

"Real Hip Hop" by Dj Kay Slay ft. Papoose, Vado & Ransom [Music Video]

"Imperialism vs. materialism/
Dr. Malachi York, ??? wisdom/
You be in everybody's video, really tho, listen/
You ain't a gangsta, to me you just a video vixen/"

This is a dope track to wake up to. These three make a pretty deadly combination. Peace to DJ Kay Slay for bringing them all together on one song. Check it.

Wednesday 23 April 2014

"Ships, Sherpas and Shootings" by Mac Lethal [Video]

Mac Lethal's killin it with this In Other News series. If he keeps it up I won't be buyin newspapers, watchin tv, or reading news online, I'll just throw the news on my iPod. I think this guy's onto something. Check it.

"Hot" by CunninLynguists ft. Celph Titled & Apathy

"My favourite spot in the sporting goods is the hunting section/
They got slingshots and crossbows and other types of weapons/
Camouflage vests and fully stocked with the lead/
Next aisle over, I can go fishing instead/"

And here's a dope one featuring emcees from both of the groups that I just blogged about. This track is very hot indeed. It's from CunninLyguists' Strange Journey Vol. 3. Check it.

"The Format" by CunninLynguists ft. Masta Ace & Mr SOS

"From classical to jazz we can who's who it/
Or blow the dust off and groove to it/
Lets ride... B-Side on direct drive/
You know that crack'll give the best high/"

First when I heard this song, the intro really threw me off. The beat has a lot of sick elements in it, perfectly harmonizing jazz and hip-hop. I love those keys along with the bass. I think it fits well with what the song's about. They didn't do any wrong in having Masta Ace as a feature either. "The Format" is a cut from CunninLynguists' latest album Strange Journey Volume Three. Check it.

"7th Ghost" by Army of The Pharaohs

"Now Lucifer let loose of me, they're not used to me/
I'm not what I used to be/
I used to be a young nigga, silly state of mind/
Now I'm just a nigga going crazy like he facing time/"

Army of the Pharaohs just released their new album, "In Death Reborn". I had the chance to listen to it a few times, and it's pretty impressive. I'm not familiar with a few artists in AOTP but I think they all fit well together. There's a lot of dope production, rhymes and just raw hip-hop on this album. Here's one track (which I hope YouTube doesn't remove) that features Reef the Lost Cauze, Doap Nixon, Blacastan, Demoz and Vinnie Paz. Check it.

Monday 21 April 2014

Mass Appeal presents "Rhythm Roulette" ft. Black Milk [Video]

I've recently been introduced to this video series, "Rhythm Roulette". Each episode features a different producer who's been directed to visit a record store, blindfolded, and pick 3 random vinyls. The rest of the video shows the producer creating a beat from the 3 vinyls. Every episode I've seen so far is pretty dope and shows how talented these guys really are. Other producers include Statik Selektah, Illmind, Marco Polo and Erick Sermon, just to name a few. Check it.

106 & Park Backroom Freestyle by Shad [Video]

"I don't really get Reddit, I don't really get credit/
Not like respect, like actually, I don't really get credit/
I don't got a credit card, that's good, no debts, yet at/
times I go to pay and they say oh, we don't accept debit/
Don't accept cash, see they make us have to get in debt it/
Makes me wanna talk Illuminati on my next record/"

It's pretty cool to see somebody from Ontario kick a freestyle on 106 & Park. Shad holds it down and makes us look good with this dope verse atop a grimy breakbeat. His wordplay is phenomenal, check it.

"State of Mind" by Dizzy Wright

"Ignore the hate, you niggas ain't qualified to even be occupied/
Don't fake the funk, we blaze a blunt, we never compromise/
Focus... I'm bringing this funky shit in doses/
With an ashtray fulla roaches, rippin that real shit with emotion/"

Dizzy Wright just released his new EP, "State of Mind" yesterday. I haven't listened to all of it yet, but the 2 tracks I heard sound pretty dope. This one's the title track for the EP and includes some pretty dope lines. Dizzy Wright is definitely a visionary. You can stream this project for free on FV's YouTube channel, or purchase it on iTunes. Check it.

Shade45 Freestyle by Locksmith [Video]

"Don't tweet about it, be about it/
Fuck a status update, get ya stackin' up straight/
I ain't had enough steak, I ain't had enough cake/
Give a fuck about his raps, I see that as a buffet/"

Locksmith recently stopped by the Shade45 studios and dropped some gems. He's out promoting his latest project, "A Thousand Cuts" which you can purchase on iTunes or stream for free on his YouTube channel. If you like this freestyle, then you'll definitely be a fan of his fully produced music. Check it.

"Typical" by Wrekonize [Music Video]

"My environment is pristine, been this way since sixteen/
Drive and lean like Christine, my city's like a big dream/
And I'm just here sippin beers tryna stay conscious/
Avoidin' all the gossip and the high school nonsense/"

Just came back from visiting a bunch of Caribbean islands only to return to snow and wind in Canada. So this video is some bullshit. I hate having to see it right now, but it's a pretty dope song and I can't let the post-vacation blues get the best of me. Check it.

"I Need Help" by Hopsin

"Man I'm losing my mind, you all assume that I'm cool when I rhyme/
see I'm trying to be Marcus and Hopsin but I get depressed when the two intertwine/
Truthfully, I'm not the man that I used to be, nobody cares who I used to be.../
To talk to so I lose the heat, I'm cut bad and the bruise is deep/
Is there anything you can do for me?"

This video was really well done, I was impressed. I loved every minute of Hopsin's Knock Madness and its great to have some new visuals when they actually deliver a crazy experience. That effect where he's going back and forth between being Hopsin and Marcus was crazy and the whole atmosphere of the video was intense. I realize from the content of Knock Madness that Hopsin may be a little confused by where his career has taken him but I been watchin this guy's videos since Sag My Pants and he has really come into his own and this video shows it off. Check it out.

"Box Chevy V" by Yelawolf

"I'm out the gate like a race horse, made in the A of course,/
That's A for Alabama I'll be damned if I say Georgia/
Tennessee in this bitch, I got some Hennessy that's paid for/
Give me that big bottle, fuck it, if I break it I'll pay for it/
My ladies laying in the Chevrolet and I say "Lord.../
thank you for giving me this baby girl on a suede horse"/
Yeah this ain't no gay Ford, I'm pushing bowties till I die,
and I'm gonna ride till my legs sore."

New track and video from Yelawolf today and I was really feeling it. This song is the fifth installment of his Box Chevy saga and it's got some really cool elements. I like the setting and some of the interesting camera shots which highlight it. He keeps it pretty real and brings a catchy chorus but when that guitar kicks in with Yela just jamming in his truck during the third verse I was officially hooked. Yelawolf is definitely something different and I don't think he's everyone's favourite but I think the dude has stuck true to what hip-hop is about and he keeps me coming back. Check it out.

"Respect the Architect" by Blueprint [Music Video]

"The most holiest, the top is the lonliest but only cause I don't associate with any lames/
Expose the phoniest, show him how cold he is with flows that go against the grain/
No doubt, I'll play the shooter and coroner if need be/
When you know the body drop and catchin it is easy/"

Blueprint's songs are always hit or miss for me. This one is a definite hit. I think he did a good job altogether in releasing this, the video/beat/lyrics all seem to fit together really well. This beat is strange, but I think it sounds amazing. Check it.

Hunger Pains Cypher ft. G-Mo Skee, Kung Fu Vampire, Dirtbag Dan & Wrekonize

"I'm wreaking havoc, any emcee can have it/
So savage my shit premieres on National Geographic/
With the wildebeests and rabbits/
If you have sex with me, you're guilty of fuckin beastiality and ratchet/"

These guys are all on tour together, so it's only right they drop a cypher together. They're all very unique in style which makes this cypher pretty interesting. TeamBackPack hosts this one and provides a really dope beat for the talented emcees to wreck. Check it.

"So Long" by Jelly Roll ft. Yelawolf

"Slow up please, don't get me started/
These kids now are so heartless/
These trailer parks and apartments/
But they told me home is where the heart is/"

This may be the most mainstream sounding joint I've ever posted to this blog. But I have my reasons. The message behind this song is awesome, and it makes the all too familiar radio sound bearable. I feel like Jelly Roll was trying to adapt and maybe get this joint on the radio, and I'm hoping it works for him because this is the kinda shit that could improve mainstream standards. Check it.

"End of a Knife" by Chamillionaire

"Cuz now I've gotta roommate/
A lazy roommate that always went to school late/
An athlete, but his temper wasn't too great/
He's normally cool, but sometimes he's such a two-face, and too fake/"

And now for some Latin heat from Chamillionaire. This Kato produced beat gets some storytelling treatment from the Chamillitary Mayne himself. I really like the vibe of this track. Check it.

"The Grand Leveler" by Apathy [Music Video]

"The man and the myth, I'm Hiram Abiff/
I'll resurrect Jesus myself and buy him a spliff/
I build pyramids, and parallel portals to other worlds/
Married to Mary Magdalene, but still touch other girls/"

After watching this video, I'm a little confused. Not sure if Apathy's actually a freemason, or if he's just in a lodge to make the video work. The lyrics are sick, but they don't really explain the video for me. I'm sharing it anyway cuz I'm a fan of Ap and this song sounds pretty good. Check it.

Tuesday 18 March 2014

"Wavy" by Godemis [Music Video]

"Pop another molly, rollin trees like a lumberjack/
Smoking on that earwax, call that shit that other crack/
Sittin in a K-hole, staring out the Cadillac/
Yea I love this liquor but the shit'll never love me back/"

CES Cru has been a little late making their videos for Constant Energy Struggles, but better late than never. I'm a fan of this song from the album, and this video complimented it well. Glad the video didn't ruin the song lol. Check it.

Wednesday 12 March 2014

"Higher" by Classified ft. B.o.B.

"Yea my parents tried to pre-warn me/
But now we higher than E-40 and King Gordy/
When I'm in the studio recording it seems boring/
Until you come around each morning and reward me/"

This song's definitely gonna be on the radio. I'm not a huge fan of the direction of the beat, but I understand it. Aside from the mainstream sound, both Classified and B.o.B. had sick verses. Check it.

"God Particle" by Army of the Pharaohs [Music Video]

"Conducting chaos with a chrome baton, so sound the smoke alarm/
Cuz over all I broke your arms and kicked ya ass with loafers on/
Home boy this HK settle wars/
I'm a dragon, you a faggot with a tape measure sword/"

Shiiiit son. The Army of the Pharaohs has returned. This track is perfect to set a start to what's yet to come from them. The beat's heavy as fuck, and there's some sick lyrics in there. The upcoming AOTP album, "In Death Reborn" will be out on April 22.

Thursday 20 February 2014

"House of Games 2" by Locksmith ft. RA The Rugged Man

"Laws and religion cause the hoards of division/
Doors of admission causing the friction, inscription like the walls of Egyptians/
Paint a portrait like the lord of the Christians, tainting awe to this pigment/
False depiction got us all in a prison/"

Pretty sure that first Locksmith verse is from the last House of Games release. He added RA to this version though, and then follows him by adding to the murder RA had already incited with a 2nd verse. This is a crazy collab. Check it.

"Nobody Cares" by Tech N9ne, Krizz Kaliko, Stevie Stone

"How you didn't know we had the green, when we all up in your magazine?/
So focused on the flow, fo' fifth, yo bitch throw shit, that's flattering/
We ain't like you others, we gotta very sick disease/
And if you get this bug, it may result in gettin' cheese/"

Another release from Strange Music's upcoming project, Strangeulation. I feel like Tech switched his style up in this one, and sounds like he's tryna adapt more to the mainstream. I still think it sounds sick tho. I love how the chorus calms down too, Kali's a beast. Check it.

"Amazing Tongue Twister Rap" by Mac Lethal [Video]

I'm starting to believe that Mac Lethal may be the fastest spitting emcee on the planet. I'm not gonna post lyrics for this since they're included in the video, but if this is actually real, it's unreal lol. Check it.

Tuesday 18 February 2014

"More to Life" by Komodo ft. emoceans.

"Unsettling mind, repetitive grind/
Competitive blind sheep with gelatin spines/
Who seldom can climb accolades helpin' em shine/
Empowered people gettin' trapped in a shell and resign/"

Another track from local artist, Komodo. This one features another local artist named emoceans. This one's gotta mellow beat and a soft hook to compliment it. Both of these guys spit some dope verses. Check it!

KOTD: Pat Stay vs Dizaster [Video]

Absolutely insane battle. Check it.

"The Perspective" by Dizzy Wright ft. Chel'le [Music Video]

"She all alone, she don't even wanna comprehend/
Y'all niggas too opposite, y'all niggas too fraudulent/
Now she in her thoughts, lost soul and she can be bought, and now the niggas wanna follow them?/
A little lost, with a shame, can't talk with a man so they struggle not to bottle it in/"

A song about Instagram. It's actually pretty deep, but hearing the chorus makes it a little hard to take it as serious as the song is. For me at least, but that's cuz I'm not heavy on the social media outlets unless it pertains to my music or this blog. Either way, here's a video for a dope cut from The Golden Age.

"Master Xploder" by Dope DOD ft Teddy Killerz [Music Video]

"I ran into a million dumb people in the biz/
They said I rap too evil, but now I'm getting rich/
I don't give a shit though, kick it like a schizo/
Another horrorcore banger for your disco/"

Feels like I've been posting shit by these guys pretty frequently. This is the 3rd video I've seen them in in the past few weeks. Apparently this track is from an upcoming Dope DOD project which can be expected out in March. Check it!

"Devil Is Alive" by Caskey (Devil Is A Lie Freestyle) [Video]

"Sunday morning, doin' sermons on these black chicks/
You was busy meeting up with broads gettin' catfish/
Hypocritical, I tell it by ya tactics/
Y'all despicable, you never on my draft pick/"

Caskey takes to Rick Ross' popular track to spit a verse of his own. Not sure what Caskey has planned next for projects, but it sounds like he's still writing dope shit. Check it.

Sunday 16 February 2014

"WakeDaFucUp" by Onyx ft. Dope DOD [Music Video]

"Blades and nunchucks, blazing gun shots/
When I'm done they can rake their guts up/
This heat turns your face to slush pup/
Ride to hell, this is satan's bus stop/"

Onyx and Dope DOD team up once again to give ya a hype track to WakeDaFucUp to. The beat and video both help add to the grimy track. This one's produced by The Snowgoons. Check it.

"Avian" by Mac Miller [Music Video]

"I'm Kenny Powers, you more of a Debbie Downer/
My bitch taking off her trousers every time I get around her/
I'm nasty, I never shower, go sleep on a bed of flowers/
Not into this conversation, I've been in my head for hours/"

This video's weird as hell but I think it's fuckin dope. Makes me wanna go on a psychedelic escapade and find some purple trees lol. Check it.

Monday 10 February 2014

"Fragile" by Tech N9ne ft. Kendrick Lamar, Mayday & Kendall Morgan [Music Video]

"Write a rhyme and I put everything in a flow/
I'm the N9ne, I'mma look very mean when a foe/
Scribe a line but he has never been at a show/
By the times it'll be better, leave it in the sto'/"

This video was released a few days ago, but I couldn't access it because it was on MTV's website. For some reason MTV won't let me watch certain videos because I'm Canadian. Fuck em, I never liked those guys anyways. But here's a YouTube version that Strange Music finally dropped on their page. Check it!

Verse Unheard ft. General Steele [Video]

"You versus me emceeing? A hearse is needed/
I just murk the beat and leave the speakers bleeding/
Man I reek of weed, I'm a reefer demon/
See my image when you chiefin' on the trees you breathe in/"

General Steele of Smif-nWessun drops a dope verse in this video, adding to Duck Down's "Verse Unheard" video series. Check it!

Amazing Hip-Hop Mashup with Bottles [Video]

These dudes know how to rock bottles. Starting off with songs from the likes of Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash, all the way to Dr. Dre and Macklemore, these guys present unique renditions of a bunch of classic songs. Check it!

Sway in the Morning: Strange Music Cypher

After just signing Murs to their already solid team, Strange Music dropped into the Shade45 studios, and Sway got them to drop a cypher. Tech does a verse from "See Me" unfortunately, but the video is still pretty entertaining. Check it.

Thursday 6 February 2014

Crib Session Freestyle ft. Immortal Technique [Video]

"A christmas tree pyramid, with the star as an eye/
Like a satellite in orbit watching me from the sky/
Every country wants a piece of the American pie/
But that means you have to co-sign America's lies/"

Tim Westwood featured Immortal Technique in this video, and he absolutely rips it! Tech drops some political knowledge through his rhymes with impeccable delivery. That beat is nuts too. Check it.

Tuesday 4 February 2014

"Still Get Through The Day" by RA the Rugged Man ft. Eamon [Music Video]

"Living in a breeze, please, life's full of tragedies/
We see our friends die, some get murdered, some die by disease/
Got your finger on the trigger, don't do it/
Contemplating suicide, just put the gun down, we all been through it/"

RA dropped some visuals for one of the deeper tracks off his latest album, Legends Never Die. The video captures a vintage feel which helps RA's past come back to life through both the song and the video. This track's pretty cool. Check it.

Friday 31 January 2014

"I Rock Mics" by Termanology, Lil Fame & Sean Price [Video]

Fuck a format, I've had a few and can't be bothered. Check out this little cypher music video. Term, Fame, Kimbo Price. All 3 kill it. Huzzah. This shit makes me want to throw fuckin' chairs in this bitch. Enjoy!

Thursday 23 January 2014

"Don't Text & Drive" by Mac Lethal [Video]

"Driving and cruising while typing and snoozing/
They better check the stats of all the lives that we're losing/
This might stop the heart from beating in your chest/
But texting and driving is the leading causing death for teens/"

Here's another dope video from the "In Other News" series, presented by Mac Lethal and iamOTHER. If this and the pope video are any sign of what's yet to come, I can't wait to hear what they wanna inform us about next. These videos are awesome. Check it.

Tuesday 21 January 2014

"No Competition" by Talib Kweli, Elzhi & Phonte [prod. Khrysis]

"I point it right where her thong at/
And knocked it loose, and like Dr. Seuss, I gave the cat the long hat/
And shift the bed with this gift instead/
Illest, pointin' the infa red at an infant head/"

Originally check this song specifically for the Elzhi verse. And it's definitely the highlight of the song for me, but these guys all killed it. From the verses to the production, everyone involved in this was at the top of their game. Dope shit. Check it.
